My Take About Our Sacred Brotherhood

Discover Time Well Spent, Many Believe these Virtue

In the Beginning:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness... Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.

Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being...

What is Freemasonry?

For centuries, millions of men of every race, color, creed, and political persuasion throughout the world have found in the Symbolic Lodges of Freemasonry the light to guide their search for answers to eternal questions:

What is the meaning of life? The nature of God and man?

  • Founded on the belief of "Our Trust Being in God," and the tenets of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.
  • Composed of moral men committed to self-improvement, family and community encouragement.
  • Supporting representative government, a free society and public education.
  • Dedicated to perpetual fraternal service.

Is Freemasonry a Secret Society?  Is Freemasonry a Religion?

To the surprise of many, Freemasonry is not a secret organization. In fact we have very few secrets. There are no secret members. Lodges publish their rosters and clearly identify their locations, meetings, activities, and community involvement. In fact, many Masons regularly wear jewelry and pins that announce their membership in Freemasonry. The world at large is aware of the aims, ideals, and charitable efforts of our organization. Only the individual modes of personal recognition, some of the details of the degrees, and private ballots of members are and must be kept secret.

Masonry is the oldest sacred brotherhood in the world. They were possibly influenced by the Knights Templar, a group of Christian warrior monks formed in 1118 to help protect pilgrims making trips to the Holy Land.

Masonic Contribution to Society

Often times, members of the Masonic Fraternity are either the present leaders or future leaders in their communities. In fact, it has been said that every time someone new joins the Masons, their community benefits. Many of America’s leaders, past and present, public and private, have been members of our Fraternity. Fourteen United States Presidents have been Freemasons.

Freemasons have served with honor in the several branches of the Unites States Government and Military, several have been Supreme Court Justices, and numerous have been Members of Congress.

Many signers of the Declaration of Independence were Masons. The principles of Freemasonry were prominent in the framing of the Constitution of the United States.

Masonry is a strong supporter of public education, constitutional government, and equality. We as Masons believe strongly in freedom of religion and expression. Masonry is not a service organization but Masons are responsible charitable members of our communities.

Where there is a need Masons traditionally attempt to fill the void. Masons are active supporters of the several faiths of which they are members and many hold positions of leadership and service in their churches.

The Influence of Masonry to Society

The influence of Masonry is like the influence of the home and the influence of the church. It does guide with a well found rule and guide of our faith.

Man’s basic nature is such that he needs every positive influence he can get.

  • He needs the powerful influence of a good home.
  • He needs powerful influence of a dedicated church made up of dedicated believers.
  • He needs the influence of dedicated teachers in the public schools.

But, when it is all said and done, it doesn’t hurt to have a little extra push that comes from fraternal organizations, or from professional organizations.

Masonry has a fruitful heritage; many years of service to the State of Alaska.  Alaska Masonry now looks to the future with the hope that a better understanding will allow the lodge to take its rightful place in every Alaskan community, right alongside of the church, the home, the schools, and the civic organizations as a positive force for good.

With this better understanding there is every reason to believe that we can all work together to make our government, our schools and our churches even stronger than before.

The strength of Alaska has always been built upon the combined efforts of all these groups, and the Grand Lodge of Alaska has contributed valuable service to our churches, our nation, our state and our community.

Why The Holy Bible

The Holy Bible is given to us as the rule and guide of our faith for daily practice. From the commencement of the world we may trace the foundation of masonry in this sacred book.

It is a strength in human nature, that men are generally happier with the spiritual value prescribed by faith, then with the raw worth of intrinsic value of things obtained.

Truth is aided by an attribute and the foundation of every virtue. To be a good man and true is that first lesson taught in masonry.

On this theme we contemplate and by its dictates endeavor to regulate our conduct; hence, while influenced by this principle, hypocrisy and deceit are unknown among us, sincerity and plain-dealing distinguish us, and heart and tongue join in promoting each other’s welfare and rejoicing in each other’s prosperity.

Many Trust the Gospel without Doubt, Discover Time Well Spent

No better precepts, no stronger motives, than the gospel contains, have ever been inculcated. The greatest faith in the world will ever be compared or of greater worth; and none can be conceived by man completely adapted to the necessities and nature of a sinful man, endowed with the faculty of reason and with capacities of faith. The miracles were of such a nature as excluded the idea of artifice or delusion; they were wrought openly in the presence of multitudes; they testified the benevolence of a Savior, as well as the beauties, strengths and wisdom of the Son of God. The Disciples of Christ could not be deceived by the influence of non-believers; for they were themselves endowed with the gift of tongues and of prophesying, and with the power of working miracles they devoted their lives to the propagation of the gospel, in opposition to every fleshly interest, and amidst continual annoyances.
